Corona del Mar huddle attendees were captivated as Ashley Olson hilariously recounted the time a fan fell on her face. The FCA student leader explained that, going into her junior year of high school, she had some pretty high expectations for what her year should look like. These plans included playing on her variety lacrosse team. Unfortunately, one day, as she was lying in bed, her ceiling fan fell from the sky and landed on her face. Her nose was shattered, her eyes were black and blue, and her dreams of starting on her lacrosse team were broken.
Ashley shared that, in that moment, she had a choice. She could choose to complain about her situation or she could choose to be content and remember that God is in control. Ashley explained that, even though it was really, really hard to choose to trust God, he ultimately used the fan incident to teach Ashley a lot about herself and his love for her.
She challenged her peers to remember Philippians 4:13 which reads, “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.” Ashley explained that this means God gives us the power to choose contentment and trust him in all circumstances as we give him control of our lives.
